Our Hiring Culture
At DojoStack, we've learned valuable lessons about hiring from our team's past experiences. A crucial insight is this: the person under pressure to hire is often not the best person to make the final decision. When there's urgency to fill a role, it's easy to lower standards. That's why we believe in a system of accountability - where other team members, not subject to the same pressure, are involved in the hiring process.
Ultimately, it's everyone's responsibility to hold the bar high. By involving multiple perspectives and maintaining rigorous standards, we ensure we never settle for mediocrity.
Much like in the movie 300, where a small, elite team battles against overwhelming odds, we believe in the power of small, highly capable, high-ownership teams. We're not looking to fill seats but we're looking to assemble a team of A+ players - people who don't just do their job but redefine excellence in their roles.
The Team Philosophy We Live By
- 01
Hands-On Leadership
We want managers who can roll up their sleeves and do the work. Leadership here isn't about delegation but as much as it is about being in the trenches.
- 02
A+ Players Attract A+ Players
Mediocrity is contagious, but so is excellence. Hiring incredible talent raises the game of the entire team.
- 03
Talent Knows No Borders
While we aim to build hubs where people can collaborate in person, we recognize that the best talent can be found anywhere in the world.
The Culture of High Standards
We are unapologetically intense. We hold ourselves and others to high standards, and we're upfront about this with candidates. Why? Because radical transparency about our culture is key to hiring the right people.
When we're clear about the sacrifices, challenges, and standards of excellence required, two things happen:
Some candidates will hesitate. They'll ask about work-life balance or seek clarification on expectations. These people may not thrive in our culture.
Others will light up. Their eyes will sparkle when we talk about intensity, high standards, and the thrill of building something extraordinary. These are the people who have been waiting for an environment like DojoStack - the ones who see growth as hard but worth it, and who thrive on discomfort because they know it's the price of excellence.
And you know which group of people we're looking for… But we can only separate those groups when we're upfront about our work culture with candidates.
We Bet on Young High Potentials
While we believe that some things can only be acquired through experience, we also see a new wave of ambitious, smart talents with immense potential. At DojoStack, we bet on full potential. We take chances on young high performers, give them the support to thrive, and reward them based on results - not seniority.
If you’re young, hungry, and capable of getting the job done better than someone with 20 years of experience, we believe you deserve to be treated - and rewarded - accordingly. We invest in high potentials, helping them grow into the next generation of leaders.
We Bet on Misfits and Rebels
At DojoStack, we seek individuals who defy convention - those who have achieved extraordinary feats and perceive the world through a unique lens. Whether you’ve navigated the challenges of immigration, stood out as a nonconformist in traditional settings, or excelled in unconventional arenas like competitive sports or academic competitions, we value the distinctive perspectives you bring.
We believe that innovation thrives on diversity of thought. By embracing contrarians and creative nonconformists, we cultivate an environment where groundbreaking ideas flourish. Your unconventional experiences and willingness to challenge the status quo are not just welcomed—they are essential to our mission of transforming education.
“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”
If you see the world differently and are driven to make a significant impact, DojoStack is the place where your unique talents will be celebrated and your potential unleashed.
Final Thought: Build for Greatness, Not Comfort
At DojoStack, we believe greatness isn't comfortable. Excellence requires discomfort. We know this and embrace it.
We are crystal clear about our culture from day one. We can't sell a polished, sugar-coated version of our culture. We must be brutally honest. Be real. Talk about the mission, the sacrifices, the intensity, and the wins - but don't hide the hard truths. The right candidates will thank us for it, and so will our business.
Because at the end of the day, the quality of our team defines the quality of our business.
Our Employer Value Proposition
- 01
Being part of DojoStack means embracing change and opportunity.
Here, change is a constant, and with it comes limitless potential. You’ll need to be comfortable navigating uncertainty and occasional chaos - this is a harsh truth, but it’s neither good nor bad. It simply is. How you respond to it puts you in control. If you can spot opportunity in change, you’ll find this environment both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
- 02
Everything around you is evolving and expanding.
At DojoStack, roles aren’t rigid, and growth happens fast. You might find yourself stepping beyond your usual responsibilities or even seeing your role evolve into something much bigger. Along the way, you’ll be learning by doing. Keeping an open mind is key - it will help you develop new skills and grow alongside the company.
- 03
Above all, we value clear and honest communication.
In a fast-moving environment, alignment is crucial. To thrive here, you don’t need to be the loudest voice in the room, but you do need to be confident enough to speak openly and assertively when needed. Clear, direct, and respectful communication keeps us aligned and ensures we’re all moving in the right direction.
- 04
Working here isn’t for everyone.
Let’s be real - every environment suits some people and not others. DojoStack is no exception. We believe in radical honesty to help people decide if this is the right place for them. If you love learning, thrive under pressure, and want to help shape the future of education, you’ll find a home here.
- 05
We are ambitious individuals united as a team.
Our ambition is relentless, but ego has no place here. We want to succeed, but we also want those around us to succeed. While the environment can be demanding, we fully support one another. Humility, collaboration, and shared wins are at the core of our culture. We operate like a high-performing sports team, pushing each other to excel side by side.
- 06
We love open minds eager to grow and make an impact.
At DojoStack, learning never stops. If you’re curious and hungry to learn, you’ll find endless opportunities to grow and truly make a difference. Flexibility and adaptability are key—new challenges will arise, and those who see them as opportunities will thrive.
- 07
Here, you can explore and push beyond your potential.
Much of what we’re building is uncharted territory. That means you’ll often find yourself doing things you’ve never done before, discovering skills you didn’t know you had. For those who crave growth, DojoStack is a professional playground where you can explore, experiment, and become the most excellent version of yourself.
- 08
Here, you can build your own future.
At DojoStack, we don’t believe in rigid career paths or limiting potential. We believe in creating opportunities for those who seek them. If you’re willing to step up, take ownership, and devote yourself to this mission, the possibilities are endless.
We reward ownership, impact, and results - not tenure. Whether you want to become a team lead, C-level executive, or even a co-founder, it’s all within reach if you prove you’ve got what it takes. We’re building a small but mighty team, and those who commit to this journey deserve meaningful rewards, including equity and a real stake in our success.
Here, the sky truly is the limit, and we’re committed to helping ambitious individuals thrive, grow, and reach their full potential.
Office Policy
- MonOffice encouraged, remote option
- TueIn the office
- WedIn the office
- ThuIn the office
- FriOffice optional
We have a hybrid schedule for those working in Berlin. We work in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays. On Mondays, we strongly encourage office work but offer the remote option. On Fridays, working in the office is completely optional.
We believe in-person interaction is crucial for innovation, productivity, and career growth. Most of us look forward to collaborating face-to-face, but we also value the flexibility of working from home. Our hybrid schedule strikes the perfect balance between these needs!
We fully support the message shared by the CEO of Duolingo:
I just wholeheartedly believe that you can work better that way. Most of what we do, not 100 percent, but most of what we do, is creative stuff. It’s a lot harder to do so over Slack and Zoom. That worked out for about nine months during the pandemic, but it is actually impressive how when the pandemic started and we all had to go remote, we executed pretty well. But toward the end of it, our ideas had run out. We were executing the ideas, but we had run out of new ideas. It’s pretty amazing, as soon as we came back to the office, within three months, you would see all these ideas popping up, and it’s because, when you’re remote, you can’t sit in front of a whiteboard and talk about stuff. Also, we have lunch together here every day. In the lunch line, you hear people being like, ‘Hey, I haven’t seen you in a while. I thought of saying this to you.’ It’s just something you would never send a Slack message for. I think the combination of all of that makes it a better company. I don’t have much proof, but I am extremely convinced.
